Host Family Weekend Part II

Day 2 (31st July 2011)

I wake up at 7AM but no one wakes up at that time so I just continue 'The Inconvenient Truth' in the room. Jolie is the second to wake up because she has to go to work at a nearby marina. Then Jaime and Michael wake up and play a card game called Bukkai. Michael teaches me to play Bukkai so I can play with him later. Jaime cooks omelet and bacon for breakfast.

After breakfast, we go to Meredith to see Antique Boat Fair. However, when we arrive, it seems that the fair was held yesterday only. So Jaime takes Parp and me to look around Mill Fall. It is a large complex that includes hotels, shops and restaurants.

Then we go back to take a break at the house. During the way back, we have a brief ice cream meal in a small shop beside Winnipesaukee.

Michael and Parp go to sleep immediately when we arrive home. We take off again at 3PM to a rented boat house very near the house. Then we ride the boat to Michael's friend's house on the Bear Island in the Winnepesaukee. It takes about 40 minutes from the boat house to there.

When we arrive, Jaime takes us to a church in the middle of the island. It is a small church that not many people visit. Jaime tells me about fairy houses. When people visit this church, they build small house models from nearby natural material, such as sticks and leaves.

On the way back, I observe a few colonies of sphagnum moss. This indicates that sphagnum can br found in many places in NH but the population is very low.

Then we head back to Michael's friend's house. Parp and I go kayaking for half and hour. Then I swim for additional five minutes since it is very hot when I was kayaking. I observe a kind of aquatic plants in the lake. They grow in a small clump but produce a very long stem for flowering.

After swimming, we head back to Laurents' house and quickly pack up because it is quite late. Then we go to an Asian restaurant in Laconia. This restaurants offers a wide range of Asian food including Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Korean food. The taste is not very impressive but it is much better than the food I eat everyday.

After dinner, we hurry back to Brewster Academy. We are half an hour late (8.30PM) but no one is checking so we do not get in trouble.

This weekend is the most enjoyable one I have ever had in the States. Thanks a lot to Laurents! Hope that I can meet them again before leaving Brewster.
